For many of us, it can be so easy to become detached from our own lives, our own needs. We are so consumed with our jobs and the need to be all things as a daughter, mother, sister, friend. When do we fit in the time to invest in our own well-being and our own needs?
I thought today I would break down simple ways you can begin to start investing in yourself. If you don’t fuel your own needs, we can’t expect others to do it for us.
Set personal goals
Our professional lives are important to fuel parts of our happiness but what’s often ignored is making time to invest in our personal interests and hobbies in a real, meaningful way. Do you find yourself saying “I don’t have time to read” or “I wish I could find the time to learn how to make those recipes I bookmarked in that one cookbook”. The thing is, we all have the time, it’s just a matter of how you prioritize the hours in the day.
This is why I’m such a huge fan of setting SMART goals for your own success. Set aside time today to go over what you really want to accomplish. Give yourself actionable tasks and a deadline so you can truly accomplish them!
Your mind expands when you learn more. Whether it’s an audiobook or an old school paperback, get into the habit of reading and learning more about a subject. It can be on personal development, a topic you’ve always found interesting, anything! The more knowledge we consume, the more it will help you in your day to day in your interactions with others. There was a period of time where I literally didn’t read one book for multiple years. I always found myself just reading blogs or articles online. Now that I’m in the habit of reading books, I feel like it’s expanded my world in so many ways and it also connects me with more people since my depth of knowledge is greater.
Take care of your health
This one is a big one. If you know me, you know I’ve had a good deal of health issues come up. Take the time to go to the doctor’s office! Get your regular blood work done, pay close attention to what foods you are eating, how much sleep you’re getting a night, and all the daily living things that we should all be doing to begin with, even though it can be pushed to the side. Our health is something many people can deprioritize in life, until of course you get ill and wish you had taken better care of yourself. There’s no better investment into yourself and your future!
[Modula id=’15’]Make time for self care
Self care is very important to our survival. If we give, give, give constantly then what is left for us at the end of the day? Investing in just a few moments a day for yourself can make all the difference in how you view your day, your life, and your relationship with others.
Get creative
When we’re children, many of us loved drawing, performing, or doing some kind of arts & crafts project for school. Some how as adults though a lot of us have lost the joy in using our creative muscles. The other day I went to a pottery making class and had the best time! Tapping into your creative flow can help break up your routine, expand your mind, and add joy into your life!
Let me know your thoughts on investing in yourself! Do you feel it’s important? What are ways you invest in yourself to help you excel?
