We all have specific wants and desires in our lives. We want to be healthy, we want to have the time to learn a new language, we want to make more money, the list really does go on. One ingredient that is in the recipe to achieving all that you want is consistency.
Tony Robbins once said that it is not the actions we take once in a while that shape our lives but it is the actions that we take consistently.
All the actions you take once in a while do add up to a way of life but it is ultimately the consistency and energy toward your goal that makes the difference.
Below are a few tips to help you achieve the consistency you need toward living the life you desire.
Understand Your Intentions
Do you understand the deep desire around why you want to be consistent with a specific set of actions? Leaning into and understanding your intentions, your core values, and your why is imperative to staying the course. When goals are set without a clear foundation of understanding the importance of it to your life, they can tend to fall the wayside.
It’s OK to Feel Unmotivated – Do It Anyway
Motivation is overrated. Sometimes that spark of motivation never comes, so then do we just not act on what is important to us? No. It is possible to lack motivation and yet still be willing to take action. Often times when we take action, motivation follows because we experience how good it feels to actually do something that is important to you.
Look to What Qualities are Important to You
When you think about what qualities are most important to you as it relates to your goals, ask yourself ‘What would someone with this quality do next to achieve this goal?’ This will help you stay focused on the path ahead despite any thoughts that might be rooted in making excuses for yourself.
Create small, sweet steps
Want to get out of student loan debt? Want to save up for a house? Want to find another job? These all sound so big and almost impossible but the key to consistency is finding those very small steps you can take that feel easeful so that each day you can build consistency on working toward your goals.
Create a daily routine
Carve out a specific time of day where you can work on your goal – is it to work out every day? Block out the hour you need to get it done. Is it to save money toward a vacation? Put a specific monetary value aside each day in a special account or plan your meals ahead of time so you save money on food. The options are truly endless on the little steps you can take to create a daily routine for yourself when it comes to your goals!
Look for a coach or accountability partner
Life happens and things come up. Sometimes the consistency is just not possible with all the other things you are juggling in your life. Seek support from a coach or accountability person who can help keep you on track and guide you back on the right path if they see you going astray.
Which of these tips stands out to you?
Consistency is something I need to work on for sure. This post was helpful! I need to remember that I cannot rely on motivation alone. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂
