Not all bacteria is created equal. Despite what you may have thought in the past, there is such a thing as “good” bacteria. Probiotics are a form of this good bacteria – they are living cultures that help change or repopulate the intestinal bacteria to balance out your gut flora. One way to keep this bacteria that lives in your gut happy, is by eating a healthy, varied, balanced diet.
There are specific foods that do contain probiotics (or live bacteria). These are any foods that are fermented, such as: sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, kefir, and kombucha just to name a few. I regularly have kimchi as my go-to with Korean food and it can even be really good in veggie bowls! And kombucha is so delicious, I love the fizzies 🙂
Keeping your gut happy has sooo many benefits. To name a few key benefits of probiotics; probiotics:
Allow for the growth of a diverse ecosystem in your gut
Fight against bad bacteria
Reduces gas and bloating (though as you start to incorporate more probiotics, in the beginning, you can experience potentially more bloating – just in the beginning!)
Restores balance in your gut
Alleviates and reduces gut inflammation
Probiotics also help with nutrition absorption. The foods that we eat aren’t always absorbed completely, so that’s where probiotics can come in and help produce digestive enzymes that break down your food. So now all those leafy greens, vegetables, and delicious food that we spend so much time preparing, can actually be absorbed more toward completion with the inclusion of probiotics into our diet.
Not only do probiotics help with absorption but it also reduces muscle inflammation in your body, especially after exercise. If you didn’t know, exercise can cause an acute inflammatory response in your body. That’s why recovery time is crucial for gaining benefits and improvements in muscle strength, tone, and endurance. Over 20 studies have shown that probiotics boost the vital functions of your inflammatory response, leading to decreased inflammation in your body.
Those are just a few of the benefits that you can get by including probiotics into your routine. I started taking Silverfern probiotics about a month ago and I have truly noticed a difference in how my gut feels and my energy level. I make sure to set out a week’s worth of probiotics at the beginning of the week, so that I make sure that I take them daily.
Tell me, do you take probiotics? If so, I’d love to hear your experience!
