I’m all about easy ways to get more nutrition into my diet. Especially with the heat wave that is sweeping many places up this summer, juicing is a nice and quick way to get your daily serving of fruits and veggies in. This juice is one made with ingredients I typically have in the refrigerator, that is beets, apples, and just a bit of ginger.
Beets are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. They are an excellent source of folate, manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Each of which are vital for specific elements of our health. Folate, otherwise known as Vitamin B9, is important during periods of rapid growth such as pregnancy. Manganese is essential for bone formation, nutrient absorption, and enzyme production. Potassium is vital for heart health, muscle function. Iron is necessary for red blood cell production and oxygen transport. Lastly, vitamin C is an antioxidant that supports the immune system and skin health.
Apples are also the perfect fruit to add a bit of sweetness to any juice or dish. Apples are high in fiber which aid in digestion and are also a good source of vitamins C and A, which support the immune system and contribute to healthy skin and vision. Their antioxidant properties help combat free radicals, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and certain cancers. Additionally, the tartness of green apples can help stabilize blood sugar levels, making them a good choice for those managing diabetes. Their high water content keeps you hydrated and supports overall bodily functions.
Lastly, the powerhouse ingredient that will give this juice recipe a kick is ginger, which is known for its spiciness. It aids in digestion and reduces overall inflammation. A small amount of ginger goes a long way in adding a warm, spicy undertone to the juice.
To make this juice, start by washing and peeling the beets, apples, and ginger. Cut them into pieces that fit into your juicer. I use the Hurom H400 Slow Juicer which is the best if you’re looking for something that is easy to clean. I’ve tried others in the past that do work well but I end up not using it as much because the cleanup is always quite cumbersome.
Once you combine the ingredients in the juicer or blender until smooth. Adjust the amount of ginger based on your preference for spiciness.
The result is a balanced juice that is slightly sweet, with a hint of spice from the ginger. It can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a meal. This beet, apple, and ginger juice is a simple and effective way to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet.
