Another event in the books! The last time I held an event was in February benefiting the Foundation of Living Beauty, a non-profit organization that empowers and supports women living with cancer. Hosting a group of women is always so heart-filling for me. It gives me a chance to combine all of my passions together – creating community, building connection, and raising awareness for issues that impact society.
The June event held at Coreology at The Row in DTLA was no different. I gathered an intimate group of 12 ladies, some of which it was their first time trying the megaformer!, and we sweat (with the special help of Pointe Studio grip socks), connected over refreshing Health-Ade kombucha and ate a bunch of snacks together. Before we started our workout though we had a speaker from the Downtown Women’s Center share more about the mission of the organization and share more background on how women potentially become homeless. Homelessness is not a drug problem – it’s not that simple! It could be having to live paycheck to paycheck and losing your job, it could be starting over after leaving an abusive relationship, it could be mental health issues – there are so many complexities to homelessness and it was eye-opening to learn more.
The more we learn, the more we grow and can move forward as a society – together.
Anyway, a large part to my events are the connection aspect. It’s still something I am working hard to refine and build but this event was a great example of how we can connect further. Sometimes the larger group fitness classes with 30 or more people can feel intimidating especially if you don’t know anyone. So that’s why this event was so wonderful because with this group we were able to connect further and really get to know each other. I found out someone in the community is going to be getting married soon and is in the process of picking out her wedding dress! There is another woman who is ditching the traditional 9-5 and purchased a ticket to Bali to go experience the world! So many interesting stories of women living life. Learning more about each other and maybe some how helping each other along the way is what it’s all about.
All in all the event was such a success and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time 🙂 Here are some photos from the event – thank you to Azusa Takano for the beautiful photographs!
