I’ve obviously shared how much I love spinning, so why not just try another spin class at a different studio? I’m also trying out to become a spin instructor so it’s always interesting to learn techniques from others.
This Ryde 60 class in Santa Monica in particular struck me as super appealing because it’s the only outdoor, rooftop spin class in LA. Despite it being around 50 degrees outside (that’s cold for LA!) I thought it would feel awesome to be able to get some fresh beach air. And also grab a healthy drink or snack while I’m in the area.
Class: It was a little bit tricky to find the place but I called ahead and they let me know that Ryde4 is actually right next to the Adidas store. There is an entrance with a sign explaining where to go:
The class itself was on the rooftop but because it was windy and cold in the AM, the bikes were contained in an indoor studio. Once the ride started though, the instructor opened up the windows of the studio so we could get some beach air in. In the warmer months I am told that the bikes are fully outdoor and there is a map for students to select their bike from – the shaded area vs the sunlight. You could work on your tan and spin at the same time 🙂
No pain, no gain: True to any spin class, the soreness is typically in the legs and glutes. I tend to feel it the most in my quads and glutes (depending on how much we tap it back). In my particular class there weren’t any weights but I did see some in the corner of the studio so they may be used at other times.
Amenities:
- The spin class is actually on top of the Burn Fitness gym, so you get the full amenities of the gym – showers, water fountains
- Towel service is available
Parking: The parking was a bit tricky as I didn’t see a lot adjacent but the gym is on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, so there are plenty of structures and street parking around the area.
Tips:
- If you want to have some fun pre or post class, they have a rope station all ready for you 🙂
- After class, you can walk over a block to Goji Juice & Vitamins to get yourself a healthy juice or smoothie (mine was filled with almond butter, banana, vanilla bean, cinnamon, dates, protein powder, and almond milk (yum!). I took mine over to the beach and enjoyed the sun 🙂
