I’ve been getting more and more into Pilates. I always thought you needed to lift heavy weights to get toned muscles or needed to do a million crunches to get chiseled abs but that’s really not the case. Any time I do Pilates on the megaformer (Thank you Lagree Method!), like at another studio I go to (Carrie’s Pilates Plus), I am always sore the next few days. After talking to a few of the instructors, to really see the difference in your body and strength you should practice Pilates about 2-3 times consistently every week and in your off days, do HIIT training.
Class: The class is 50 minutes long and really goes by very quickly. There is fast-paced music to help you keep moving forward and the instructor is constantly giving direction – counting down, describing the movement, hand placement, etc. There is very little down time to rest in this class (which is great!) I definitely worked up a sweat after the first few minutes.
I really need to start learning the names of all the poses (potential blog post in the future) but we did a series of movements targeting the lower abs (thank goodness!), obliques, inner and outer thighs, glutes, and arms. Yup, that pretty much covers everything! You not only use the straps attached to the megaformer to help create resistance but there are also 3 sets of weights (2 lbs, 5 lbs, 8 lbs) you use to do some arms, abs, and chest work.
As a side note, I noticed that there were spinning machines in the room as well and it turns out that Pilates Plus offers a 50 minute Pilates + Cycle class. Perfect for someone who wants cardio burn and strengthening.
Parking: There is a parking structure attached to the studio.
Tips:
- Rocio was an amazing instructor! She let us know what each movement targeted, had great energy, and really helped guide us all so that we had the correct set up.
- Uber trendy Ace Hotel is close by where you can grab a coffee or cocktail 🙂
