There has been so much hype around Body by Simone workouts – mostly due to the really strong celebrity fan following. Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and so many others are huge fans of the workout. Once Body by Simone opened up their own studio in West Hollywood in the last month, I knew I had to give it a shot and see what the hype was all about.
The studio does have numerous classes to choose from to keep your workouts interesting. They have classes ranging from trampoline cardio (which I will definitely be going back for!) to Hips, Thighs, Buns (which is the class I took), and straight dance cardio.
Class: The class starts off with a dance warmup. It may have been because I was new but it seemed that most of the other students in class knew all of the steps the instructor was doing. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t a fan of the warmup, it felt very zumba-y, so I didn’t understand the hype.
The dance portion of class was used in the beginning and intermittently during class to use as a “cool down” but to keep the heart rate up. The actual work out consisted of using gliders for sliding lunges (to target the HTB) and also a ball (much like in barre classes) to target the inner thighs. We also used the ball for fun movements like the fire hydrant/donkey kicks/etc. for all of the glute work.
All in all, I did enjoy the class and felt it was a good workout. I used my heart rate monitor and found that I burned 250 calories in a 50 minute class. It’s not an intense cardio workout but it’s more geared toward toning.
After class, you can lounge in the outdoor patio which overlooks all of Santa Monica Blvd.
No pain, no gain: Since the class I took was focused mostly on the hips, thigh, and glutes I did feel sore mostly in my hips, which is my weak area.
Amenities:
- Water is provided (make sure to bring an empty bottle)
- Face towels also provided to wipe off all that sweat!
Parking: This can be a bit tricky. It is all metered street parking or you can park in the Trader Joe’s lot, where Trader’s will validate for up to one hour (you just have to buy any item from the store).
Tips:
- One workaround for the parking situation is that if you take one of the night time classes (I took a 7:30pm class) the parking attendant at Trader Joe’s was gone by the time I was done with class, so I didn’t have to pay or validate
- It is on the second floor (above FrontRunners)
