This site is about all of us getting inspired and learning from one another’s experiences. I share with you the story and interview with Indie Lee, the creator of the clean beauty brand Indie Lee.
Indie first caught my attention with her amazing brightening cleanser. It works wonders and coincidentally around the same time I discovered this product, I was invited to a luncheon with Indie herself. I learned a little bit on her philosophies on life, how that plays a role with what she creates and also her history with developing a brain tumor that catapulted her into serving more of her purpose.
What specific lessons have you learned since discovering you had a brain tumor 10 years ago?
Indie: The day I was diagnosed was life changing. It was right after I had received the MRI results and was on my way to my doctor’s office to review them. On that drive, I realized that I had been going through the motions for years, planning my life away but not actually living it. I was a passenger in my own life. It was on that brief but significant drive that I realized that this gift of life is not a dress rehearsal and that I need to live vibrantly every day. I promised myself from that moment on that each day would count. With whatever time I had left, I would live with purpose, with passion and fully present in every moment.
Are there coping mechanisms that have helped you rebuild yourself through trauma?
Having an incredible support system has always played a vital role in my journey. My family and best friends were there for me throughout the process. In fact, my best friend took me to the majority of my doctor appointments and helped take copious notes so I wouldn’t forget any of the important information. She kept me grounded and focused. Everyone should have a friend like her in their life.
Are there specific philosophies you live your life by, that have helped guide you in your journey?
I’ve been a practicing buddhist for almost 20 years. Those principles have kept me centered during the most trying life experiences.
Do you have a morning routine? If so, what are your morning musts?
I wake up naturally pretty early. I meditate for 20 minutes, which I’ve been doing every morning for the past four years and it’s really changed my life. I also end my day with it. I also without fail text my best friend ‘GMS’, which stands for ‘good morning, Sunshine!’ We’ve been doing this every morning for the past ten years and it’s a very special reminder of how lucky we are to have each other. And lastly, my skincare routine of course! I cleanse with our Brightening Cleanser and follow with our CoQ-10 Toner. CoQ-10’s antioxidant benefits protect from pollution and environmental aggressors. Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera leave my skin perfectly prepped for the rest of my skincare ritual. I finish with Stem Cell Serum and our Daily Vitamin Infusion.
What are your skincare non-negotiables?
A good cleanser, a good serum and a good moisturizer (face and body). Also, anything that you are leaving on your skin versus washing off should be of good quality, since it’s staying on your body.
You have such a wide-range of products, what are your personal favorites and why?
I-Recover is hands down one of my personal favorites and non-negotiables that I have with me at all times. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis over 10 years ago. The thermogenic properties help comfort the aches whenever I experience a flare up. It also works wonders on stress and tension headaches, which always seem to creep up on flights.
