I’m so happy to partner with MegaFood®️ on this post – all opinions are my own!
So often, we tend to take care of our health once we already start to feel under the weather but it’s important to tend to our immune system all year round. I’m all about prevention, and this season I am making sure I take all of my vitamins and supplements before my body even starts feeling off.
Before the holiday season kicks into full swing, let’s start building healthy habits in support of our immune health. Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you think about your immune system this season.
Wash Your Hands
This is an easy thing that everyone should practice year-round. You just don’t know what kind of immune challenges are out there. Anything we touch has the potential to weaken our immune system. Make sure you wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water.
Get Adequate Sleep
Listen to your body. When it’s tired, go to sleep. Don’t push yourself to do more and risk burn out or exhaustion. Sleep allows our bodies to reset and recharge so many bodily functions, including our immune system. If going to sleep at night is an issue for you, make sure to ease off of any caffeine in the afternoon. If it’s still hard to get to sleep, I use a sound machine or ask Alexa to play ocean sounds, that helps me a lot!
Take Your Vitamins and Supplements
I am a huge supplement person! I love taking them because I know I’m doing my body a favor by filling in those nutritional gaps that aren’t always fulfilled by my everyday diet. Taking a gummy or supplement with immune-boosting ingredients like elderberry and vitamin C, to name a few, is a quick and low-effort way to keep my immune system happy!*
When you look at supplements you don’t necessarily always know what ingredients to look out for and also the quality of those ingredients. Vitamin C and ginger are some of the most common ingredients when it comes to immune health but elderberry is another option I learned about when I started taking MegaFood Elderberry Immune Support* Gummies. These gummies, as the name implies, helps support our immune defenses with powerhouse ingredients like organic elderberry and zinc.*
After a little more digging, I found out that Hippocrates himself actually referred to elderberry as his “medicine chest”. If it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me! Elderberry is widely used in Europe and it is used in particular to strengthen and support the immune system,* especially in the fall and winter seasons. This is because elderberries are a source of anthocyanins which are a type of flavonoid found in other deeply pigmented berries like blueberries and raspberries.
I get my supplement intake from MegaFood and what I particularly love about them is the fact that they offer a variety of supplements to support a healthy immune system* ranging from gummies (like C Defense and D3 Wellness) and also tablets (like Immune Defense* for more intensive care when you need it most). Immune Defense* is the best line of defense to keep in your arsenal when you need an extra boost because it packs a punch of vitamin C, zinc, elderberry, echinacea and andrographis.*
On top of providing supplements with us in mind, MegaFood is also passionate about the health of our environment and food cultivation. MegaFood is transparent about the quality of their ingredients and is the first supplement brand to have its entire line of products certified Glyphosate Residue Free.
If you haven’t heard about the negative effects of glyphosate, you can read more information in this blog post I wrote.
Eat Your Fruits and Veggies
On that note – still try to eat as many fruits and veggies as possible! Since the colder months are going to be upon us, I like to make vegetable based soups that feel soothing for me. My favorite is my Immune Boosting Carrot Turmeric Ginger soup. It’s tried and true and a staple in my kitchen!
Get Moving
A moderate, low-intensity walk for as little as 20-30 minutes each day can increase your body’s immune response. Studies show that regular moderate walks can support a healthy immune response.* While intense gym workouts can be fun – if you can’t get to the gym, don’t let that be your excuse!
Hopefully, these quick and easy tips helped you identify how you can keep your immunity top of mind!
